Health Care in Danger (HCiD) Project: UGOOD Senior Psychologists and Trainers Developed Manual, IEC Material and Conduct Training of the Trainer (ToT) for Healthcare Service Providers.
August 30, 2016 – Pakistan Red Crescent (PRC) and UGOOD signed an Agreement for “Health Care in Danger (HCiD) Project’ to Develop Manual, IEC Material and Conduct Training of the Trainer (ToT) for Healthcare Service Providers. ToT was conducted by UGOOD’s Senior Psychologists and Trainers. HCiD Project is funded by Pakistan Red Crescent Society.
Health Care in Danger is an initiative of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to make access to, and delivery of, health care safer in armed conflict or other emergencies. This initiative calls for the respect and protection of health-care workers, facilities and vehicles and the implementation of a series of recommendations and practical measure to safeguard health-care services and their humanitarian mission. It focuses on the problems caused by attacks, illegal obstruction, discrimination and armed entry and the consequences these have on the wounded and sick, for health structures, for the health personnel and for medical transport.
Whether we are aware of them or not, our attitudes can be influential on our behavior towards ourselves and other people. Negative attitudes and judgmental assumptions by health workers have been identified as key barriers to accessing health care for patients whereas absence of compassionate This is a foundation module mainly focusing on Positive Attitudes in Healthcare addresses as an important gap in training for healthcare professionals today. This modular training package has been carefully designed to help all those working in hospitals and community health settings to take an attitudinal change approach to their learning and practice.
With today’s emphasis on quality of service, how can healthcare professionals deliver the best possible care to patients and at the same time, feel enriched and supported by their work? How can they thrive, rather than just survive?
The methodology of the module consists of brainstorming, discussion and an activity. The activity generates discussion leading the participants to deepen the conversation about counseling. The methodology provides opportunity to the participants to identify issues related to negative attitudes of the service providers in healthcare set up while realizing that compassionate care has many dimensions of beneficial impact for the patients and service providers. Positive attitudes help the patients treatment adherence, satisfaction and well-being; it benefits physicians with regard to lowered depression rates, elevated meaning, lower burnout, and more diligent technical care thus contributing towards reducing violence against Healthcare service providers.
